Mastitis prevention in home dairy animals

Mastitis costs more than almost anything else in a small dairy operation, because it takes the milk, then the quarter, and sometimes the animal.

Nearly all of the prevention is unglamorous. Clean hands and a clean udder. Milking right out every time, because milk left behind is where it starts. Dipping teats afterwards. Somewhere dry to lie down, since the animal lies down straight after milking while the canal is still open. Milking the healthy ones before the infected one, and never sharing a cloth.

The early signs are clots or flakes in the first squirts, a quarter that feels hard or hot, and a drop in yield before anything looks wrong.

What is your routine, how many animals, and have you lost a quarter? What did the vet use, and did it work?

Teat dipping. Bas yehi. Har milking ke baad, har janwar, bina naaghe.

Log kehte hain waqt lagta hai — 20 second per animal lagte hain. Maine 2021 me shuru kiya aur us ke baad se aik bhi case nahi. Us se pehle saal me teen chaar hote the.

Aur strip cup — pehli do dhaaren alag bartan me nikaal kar dekho. Agar us me phatak ya lachhe hain to us din pata chal jata hai, na ke teen din baad jab thann garam ho chuka ho.

Aik quarter kho chuka hoon. Vet ne intramammary tube di thin, chaar din, lekin bohot der ho chuki thi. Ab main strip cup use karta hoon jo upar likha hai.

Milking ke baad janwar ko foran bithne mat do. Aadha ghanta khara rakho — chara us waqt daal do. Teat canal band hone me itna hi waqt lagta hai. Yeh chhoti si baat hai lekin farq karti hai.
